FAQs

  • Special Solutions takes a whole-child approach where we focus primarily on executive functioning—advocacy, time management, prioritization, how to start tasks (especially ones that a student doesn’t want to complete), etc. We integrate executive functioning into all of our sessions while we are teaching content, study skills, etc.

  • Our primary clients for tutoring / coaching range from PreK through College. We also work with adults and parents for career coaching, test prep, coaching, etc.

  • If your student is struggling, please reach out to us. Our management team specializes in coaching parents and families in directing them to the best help—whether that is Special Solutions or a professional that we recommend.

  • Many of our students have learning differences like ADHD, anxiety, etc. Our coaches tailor sessions to the needs of their students, and we have a special toolkit to help students with special challenges learn how to approach school, their academic work, etc.

  • Most students come once or twice a week for one hour sessions. This ensures consistency in their school work and the tools that we are teaching them. Sessions start of by checking grades going through teacher websites, looking at upcoming assignments and prioritizing tasks to help the student make a plan moving forward. We focus heavily on executive functioning during this time and throughout the rest of the session. Coaches then help the students with subject matter content for multiple classes, and then ensure they leave with a to-do list and a plan for the upcoming week.

Each session is personalized for your student based on their learning style, learning challenges, etc. Your student will have the same coach for every session. This ensures consistency and accountability for your student.

  • We primarily meet with students in-person if they are located in St. Louis, MO. We also offer online sessions for convenience when needed and for those located outside of St. Louis.

  • We are very intentional about how we match students with their tutor / coach. While we look at the basics, like availability and content knowledge, our main focus is personality, interests, and a coach that will engage the student and help them in their key problem areas.

  • We collaborate with students’ schools and teachers often. We will need permission to communicate with the school and teachers directly. There is a form you can ask your school for that you and we must sign.

  • You will receive a coaching workbook after each session that includes a session log. This session log details what was worked on during the session and what tools the coach is using to help your student with organization, advocacy, etc., depending on the specific needs of your student.
